It has almost been week since I landed in Mexico and let me tell you it has been an adventure already! Living in Guadalajara is similar to the states in some ways like groceries, lots of nice cars, good restaurants, busy people, etc etc. BUT what is vastly different are the areas of extreme poverty, lack of government help and structure. If you were to focus on just those negatives you would see Mexico as just that but within all the chaos I have already noticed such amazing people.
The culture here is also vastly different than we are used to in America and I think for the better. As you know I am learning the language so I struggle to hold a long conversation. So far everyone I have met has been so gracious with me and has helped me say things correctly or better!
People here are eager to help each other and so hospitable! As funny as it sounds but this culture is about food, not the actual food but what food does. Following along? When you eat, you do it as a community, as friends, as just plain loving people, that is what food is all about down here. YES of course the food is amazing, fresh, full flavor and sewn into the culture through traditions but yet so is eating as a community.
On another note the weather has been great, I went to my first church service with my new family, I experienced wild rain storms and eaten all sorts of different food. Mexico has welcomed me well and I am excited to see what God is going to do next!
