The adventure of leadership

Do you think people wake up wanting to be leaders, or just fall into it? I really do believe some people are born leaders, whereas others through experience, grow into leaders and lastly some fall into it by accident. Then there is the level of leadership people are in or have, like the leader of the neighborhood kids or the leader of the worship team or the leader of boardgame night or the leader of a company. All drastically different yet the same. They are leading someone, they are responsible for something, they will at some point be confronted or confront someone or something. At every level of work, religion and life we need leadership. What happens when the stoplight doesn't work? Someone has to choose to stop and allow someone else to go though, that is leading. Or when your child is not obeying and needs discipline, you have to choose to confront that moment with leadership, setting the example. Everywhere we look, we need leaders or we need to be that leader. Right now, I am in that crossroad of learning to lead and being the leader. Nayeli and I have to pick and choose our battles in ministry while learning to lead at the same time. A lot of times, not knowing how to approach a situation or motivate someone but digging in anyway. We ask for a lot of help from our mentors!! LOL We are in a time where we are not quite seen as leaders but yet we are allowed to lead. We make mistakes, we miss out on opportunities but through God's grace, He allows us to keep moving forward. As we go through this process, we see others going through the same one and want to do something about it. This is part of the reason why we are in seminary and why we read a lot of books! We want to be the leaders we need and others need but it is an adventure! In this culture, it is also even more difficult because people are not taught to think for themselves. Starting from the father of the church to the boss at work, they are taught to take orders and thats it. So when we come in with the idea that they can come up with new ideas, lead ministries, prayer, games, or something else, they are lost. We see their potential and we see the struggle but the culture ingrained in them is resisting. We feel like we're talking to a brick wall most days, and playing a waiting game that never ends. We never stop looking for ways to teach, lead, and encourage them to think on their own and act on their own. We see the value of working together that comes from the culture but there still needs to be a leader and we cannot do it all. Imagine your kid learns to walk but only when you hold his or her hand. We want to figure out how we can get these leaders to lead without us. SO, we keep on grinding, we keep learning and we keep trying everything we can to teach them to be leaders. IN MEXICO, we lack good leadership and we think if we can help raise up better leaders, we can extend the Gospel more.
IF you have any ideas on growing these leaders, do not hesitate to send them our way!
The adventure continues....
