Adventures in the City

I finally was able to venture out into the city for at least a day. After church this week my team took me out to get lunch and of course we got burgers of all things. They were really good I admit but not the same as back home. We went into central, which is really cool spot in Guadalajara, some rough areas but full of cool shops, restaurants and malls. Every where we went it seemed like there was graffiti art on walls, buildings and bridges. Most of it was super cool, this city is full of artists! I will be taking my camera out and documenting as much as I can over the next few months. (so look for more cool art on my page) The mall we went to was really nice and reminder that not all of Mexico is poor like the news tells you. There is plenty of wealth in this city and it is growing rapidly, there is just not enough middle class yet to help balance out the economy. I am not here to teach on that but what is cool is to see that Mexico has far more to offer than most people think. The people here don't view Mexico like we do, it is a stark reminder that people here are no different than people in America we just have different cultures, traditions and governments. People are people everywhere and it doesn't take a hero to make a difference just a simple choice of helping someone when prompted.

Something fun I learned over the past week is most people here are huge soccer fans! (no brainer right) We were driving down the road and a ton of La Chiva (meaning "The Goat") fans took over a public bus and decorated it with Chiva banners and colors. I wish I would have gotten a picture! They don't play around when it comes to rooting for the home team. I wore a Chiva's jersey out the other day and received many comments both good and bad. LOL All in fun of course but people here are competitive and it is fun to join in on it!

Last thing I learned this last week is no matter what time of day it is, it is always taco time! People love tacos down here and they are waaaayyyy better than anything I have had in the States. Again as I mentioned before people go out to eat to be with people, it just so happens that the tacos are amazing! Tacos in the morning, lunch, dinner and nightcap! (They are also very affordable)

Today I want to share a story from a friend of ours who lives here and is from here. (Guadalajara) It all starts with the word "manda",...
